Out of a love for Japanese textile design and a great respect for centuries long silk kimono production we have founded japanese-silk-design as a way to celebrate the rich splendor and tradition of some of the world’s most technically sophisticated silk weaving combined with traditional and modern design.
Each of our collections feature a combination of materials and techniques, color palettes, symbolism and tradition. Our hand-crafted items lend a luxurious and beautiful element to your home. With a commitment to sustainability, our silk textiles are taken from ceremonial kimonos in pristine condition and upcycled into lasting design elements. Complementing our rich collection of silks, we offer soft wool items upcycled from winter kimonos, Shima cottons which feature stripes and colorful geometric patterns and have a unique chapter in Japanese textile design.

All of our silks, fine wool and Shima cotton fabrics originate in Japan, where silk production and textile design have been a tradition for centuries. All of our Japanese textiles are either antique or vintage, either unused or in pristine condition. Each series of pillows are limited as they are produced from an individual kimono or bolt of silk for the production of one kimono.
We use only the most luxurious silks and soft wools, hand-painted and printed from highly skilled artisans in Japan. Enjoy the luxurious softness, colorful design and glamour of silk in your home.

Every textile has a history — from the initial relationship with the artisan - dyers, weavers, designers, and the life of the wearer to its metamorphosis into a new form - a pillow or cushion or a very personal accessory.
We design each item in our textile collection with the intention of creating pieces that can be enjoyed each day with a minimal carbon footprint.
All of our items are custom-made in our Atelier in Dresden, Germany, in collaboration with our colleagues in Japan.

Each of our pillows is expressively made to last. As a commitment to this philosophy each pillow is designed with a hidden zipper at the base and lined in silk or a fine cotton batiste with a separate insert.
This ensures that each pillow can be cleaned and its insert washed.
